Most Americans don’t know that anything “pickle” exists other than, you know, pickles. I was like that for most of my life too, shunning anything that wasn’t Kosher dill. It wasn’t until 1995 when, still quite young, I watched a Sandra Bullock movie called “The Net” where she orders a drink called a Gibson that is just a Martini with a pickled onion instead of an olive. This idea of an onion that was no bigger than an olive captivated me and, since I particularly loved olives, I went out to find this magical tiny onion.

Cut to many years later where my pursuit of the pickled onion had never born fruit and, now old enough to drink, I casually asked the bartender if they’d ever heard of this drink…and they had. So they made it for me. I didn’t even bother with the drink, I just snatched the toothpick out if the glass, gave it a quick shake to free it from Vodka and Vermouth and put into into my mouth.

The crunch of the pickled onion was what first drew me in, and the sour tanginess made me into a lifelong devotee to the pickled onion. I’ve tried every variation I’ve been able to find, but these Hayward onions are unique amongst their peers.

These onions are slightly larger than other pickled onions available. They’re also pickled in dark vinegar instead of clear white vinegar. This difference makes them much more enjoyable as a finger food and less effective as a drink garnish.

They’re tricky to cut out of the jar, but if you have a little onion chopper or food processor you can chop them and add them to any dish with ground meat. Cut them in half and add them to salads. I personally just put them on top of a triscuit with some cream cheese and eat them as a snack.

They’re highly addictive and I serve them at every gathering to my guests.

The Hayward pickled onions has good quality, flavor, texture and color. The liquid pickle brine is delicious and the color is good. The onion size is small but not the tiny sizes some brand/companies make. The problem is the small Jar 400 g is very expensive. I would like to purchase this brand pickled onions, but I cannot with the expensive price. It is the best quality pickled onions and the size of the onions are perfect. And their brand has different intensity of flavors for people who like intense flavors or mild. Thanks for these good and delicious foods and nutrition.

I used to have pickled onions a lot in my youth, growing up in Australia. Seeing this on Verified and being able to buy it in the USA made my week! Great taste.

I began buying these on Verified however with the pricing rising every other day, I found a much lower priced place to purchase them.

Delicious, tangy and crisp. Buying in bulk allowed me to let my friends in the USA try them. Also, now do not have to lock them up or worry about who might be stealing them when I'm sleeping. My stress level has gone down and I am able to sleep better at night! Who knew buying pickled onions in bulk could help you sleep and reduce stress?! Perfect companion to real Cheddar Cheese (made in Cheddar, UK), baked beans and fish and chips. Love them and will restock frequently.
