McVitie's - Digestives, Hobnobs and Jaffa Cakes

Biscuit does not mean the same thing in the two countries, and that is the first thing to sort out. A British biscuit is a hard, sweet, dunkable round — closer to a cookie than to a Southern biscuit. McVitie's is the biggest name in the category and the brand most British households buy without thinking about it.

Digestives, Hobnobs, Jaffa Cakes and Tins
Digestives are the plain, wheaty base of the range, plain or chocolate-coated on one side. Hobnobs are oatier and chewier, and split the country into loyalists. Jaffa Cakes sit apart entirely: sponge, orange jelly and dark chocolate. Assortment tins are the format bought for Christmas and for gifts.

FAQ

Q1: What is a digestive biscuit?
A lightly sweet wheatmeal biscuit, eaten plain or with a chocolate coating on one side, and designed for dunking in tea.

Q2: Are Jaffa Cakes a cake or a biscuit?
Britain has argued about it for decades, including in court. They are sold and eaten alongside biscuits.

Q3: What is the difference between Hobnobs and Digestives?
Hobnobs are made with oats and have a rougher, chewier texture. Digestives are smoother and finer.
